Lake Hartwell, located 30 miles southwest of Greenville, South Carolina and 90 miles Northeast of Atlanta, Georgia is with out a doubt the most beautiful lake in the Southeastern United States. Interstate 85 bisects Lake Hartwell making it easily accessible. Being "fed" by two rivers that come right out of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the water in Lake Hartwell is reported to be purer than in many municipal water systems. Lake Hartwell covers a land area of 56,000 acres and has 962 miles of shoreline. Having a width of approximately six miles at its widest point, the views on Lake Hartwell are both picturesque and panoramic and yet there are innumerable deep water coves and islands that provide tranquility as in the days of old. On the main body of the lake at sunset, on is afforded truly spectacular panoramic views of glittering stream of orange-red across several miles of sky blue water. From many parts of the lake you can see the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. Outdoor water related recreation opportunities abound on Lake Hartwell appealing to boaters of all kinds, whether their specialty is sailing, motor boating, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, or fishing.
